Ati-Atihan Festival
January 10, 2016

Iloilo and Cebu both honor the Santo Niño by their own unique versions of the Ati-Atihan Festival held every January. Parades of tribal dance, music, costumes and weapons emulating the indigenous  Ati peoples fill the streets all month long. "Hala bira (go, by all means)" is the chant participants shout along with the tribal drumbeat. This chant originally began with the first devotees of the Santo Niño whose mantra was Hala Bira as they went to church despite unpredictable weather conditions and very early church novena schedules. Come join the fun in Iloilo and in Cebu!
